The island sits at a strategic location between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea within the Strait of Spain Natural Park. The project proposes the recovery of the natural environment through light intervention with a perimetral walkway — a boundary line between the contained interior and the infinite maritime exterior.
Three programmatic themes organize the research laboratories: Ornithology, Native Flora, and Marine Fauna. The levante wind, present 90% of the year, is managed through lightweight packaging structures.
The walkway maintains the horizon at the same height while vertical plane interruptions create spatial rhythm. The project includes rehabilitation of 1930 military barracks, restoration of coastal batteries built in 1859 with their 12 casemates, and a wooden roof garden overlooking the Strait.
